Michel Germain has an entire line of Sexual fragrances, but Sexual Paris Pour Homme really caught my attention with how light and fresh, yet masculine it can be. The original Sexual is a women’s fragrance and was released in 1994 and has since spawned a very extensive line of variations that continues to expand, such as Sexual Fresh, Sugar, Fleur, Island, Secret, and Noir, ranging from sweet and floral to more dark and intense versions. But Sexual Paris, released in 2015, has a champagne twist to it that gives it a more sparkling feel, very modern and bright, and while the Sexual Paris Pour Homme keeps those fresh notes of citrus and champagne from the women’s version, it leans more into a spicy and woody feel, while retaining that same “Parisian Seduction” theme. Built around “French masculine charm,” it’s very uninhibited and romantic, without being too aggressive. It’s very polished and easy to wear, making it effortlessly attractive rather than being too bold or attention-demanding. Its top notes are fresh Grapefruit, Star Anise, and Cardamom, making for a spicy kick with the Star Anise giving it a slight tinge of Licorice. The heart of the fragrance is Sage, Mandarin (keeping with that citrusy edge), and Champagne accord, which gives this scent its signature sparkle. Then, finally, upon the dry-down, we obtain its more woody notes such as Patchouli, Cedar, and Fir Resin, making for a passively masculine finale that rounds this fragrance off in a truly soft and satisfying way, reminding us that manly does not have to mean brutal. Sexual Paris is definitely a sophisticated gentleman’s fragrance in every way.
