Radiance Aroma Review

Calvin Klein CK1

Calvin Klein CK1 was released in 1994 and quickly became one of the most iconic fragrances of the 1990s. What made CK1 so groundbreaking was that it was one of the very first fragrances openly marketed as unisex, targeting a younger, more androgynous generation, reflecting 90s minimalist culture. It was a massive success, earning millions in its first days, becoming a global bestseller, changing how fragrances were marketed and worn. Because of CK1, almost all scents were looked upon differently; if a fragrance was enjoyed by someone, it became completely wearable, whether by a man or a woman. I know it certainly changed my opinion of how fragrances were viewed. I found that I no longer cared about who a scent was marketed for; if I liked it, I wore it. I also noticed many fragrances that came after CK1 incorporated both floral AND woody components, rather than consisting of just one or the other, depending on which gender the fragrance was meant for. CK1 had a universal “fresh out of the shower” feel that appealed to everyone regardless of gender, lending to its resounding success. Even today, it’s seen as a classic starter fragrance, simple, youthful, fresh, and universally wearable. It has a bright and energetic opening of green notes such as Bergamot, Mandarin, Cardamom, and Lemon. Its core is a floral mix of Jasmine, Lily of the Valley, Rose, and Freesia, giving it a slight powdery touch. And its base encompasses more woody notes like Cedar, Oakmoss, Green Tea, and Amber, developing into the mix of both the floral and woody notes that CK1 is all about.
